50 Adventures on Foot - Vancouver50 City Walks Vancouver Adventures on Foot

We found 50 City Walks, Vancouver, at our local book store, wrapped in plastic, so we took a punt and purchased it. It’s actually a great little book/system! Each walk is designed to take you through an interesting area of Vancouver and its surrounds, and tells you about it as you go through. Best thing about them though is that each walk is printed on its own individual card, so you don’t have to take the whole thing with you. It can be quite exciting at the start of the weekend giving the pack a shuffle and picking one at random to see where you are off to for a walk.

City Walks: Vancouver: 50 Adventures on Foot

We’ll be purchasing more of these as we travel the world (one day!), like City Walks: Rome: 50 Adventures on Foot, New York, and even Seattle, just down the street from Vancouver – there is a whole 50 adventures on foot series.

City of Glass

If you are planning on living in Vancouver, a great read to get the locals perspective is City of Glass: Doug Coupland's Vancouver. This takes you through an eclectic A – Z about Vancouver, giving some great information and insights, on things from the Grouse Grind to the big yellow Sulphur Piles on the North Shore, and the “big one”, the earth quake that apparently Vancouver is bound to have some time, but nobody really pays attention to that...

This is a reasonably quick read, and should be read with a grain of salt. Apparently it was designed to look like a Japanese underground zine, although the short story in the middle about Douglas living in a low rent Granville hotel is slightly off kilter…
