Re: Introduction thread

Thought I should stop lurking and say g'day.

I came over from Brisbane on the WHP two months ago, and have set up in Toronto. After sending out a ton of applications for software jobs and hearing almost nothing back, I had a breakthrough this week at last. Lesson learned, if you're looking for work, get on it as soon as you arrive, if not sooner! Get your resume prepared, get your SIN, bank account, etc, and start hitting those job boards.

So, that's pretty much it so far. I'm looking forward to checking out the region - NYC, Montreal, Chicago etc - as well as all Toronto has to offer. I'll take the time to strap on some ice skates (and fall over constantly) and make the most of the very un-Brisbane-like weather...

Cheers

Lachlan

Re: Introduction thread

Hey everyone! Just stumbled on this site, looks really helpful thanks Jared.

Im Bryn, 22 years old from Sydney. Heading to the States for a month in April 2012 and then up to Vancouver in early May for at least 11 Months, possibly more! Never lived out of home before, let alone in another country. Its a bit daunting but I have wanted to do this for quite some time. Wish me luck!

Bryn

Re: Introduction thread

Hi my name is Josh
My Wife and I moved to Toronto just over 2 weeks ago, we are both from Sydney. I really found all the information on here very helpful and think it has helped us both to get jobs and a place to live within 2 weeks, although don't let anyone tell you it's hard to get a credit card, TD bank gave me one with a $1000 limit and I was unemployed.
I really like Toronto, being an Aussie is more of a novelty here than Vancouver and its got a great big city vibe!

Re: Introduction thread

Hello everyone! Im Melissa, Im originally from the Central Coast, in NSW. and my best friend and I embarked on a UK working holiday in 2007... landed jobs in Scotland, loved the town and the people... but I hated the job and they were mean to me.. so I said bugger this Im outta here... so I booked a flight to visit my sister in BC, shes in Chilliwack. I stayed there for a few months, helping watch her kids... then I applied for a work permit. OWH I think? ( got my dad to help with the paper work so I could do it while I was inside Canada, and then we drove across the border to have it stamped...) Then my internet friend came over to Vancouver to meet me, he stayed a month, and I flew with to NB for 2 weeks, and then 6 weeks later.. I moved in with him! got married 6 months later ( april 2008) and Im still living here! Went back home for a visit last year...
Would love to move to a different city... DH is from Ottawa... been there 3 times... but just dont have the $$$ for it... so for now we will enjoy living in New Brunswick! smile

Re: Introduction thread

Hey all!!

Dean's the name.. Am looking forward to hitting up canada later this year, hopefully setpember/october on a whp! Having travelled all over Australia I thought it was time to plan a trip overseas, and Canada looks to be the first stop for a very very long working holiday around the world! Keen to settle myself in whistler for god knows how long and only being 22 years old, I'm sure I'll have a hell of a good time!

So to all of you out there with tips and tricks on surviving upon arrival, jobs, accommodation etc, feel free to hit me up!
Am a fully qualified personal trainer here in Melbourne, would love to do it over there, but any job that has me interacting with people and such, I'm sure I'll enjoy!

Looking forward to meeting some fellow Aussie's over there!!
