Re: Application Processing Times

I submitted mine mid January, and received my letter a couple of days ago. Took two weeks for my AFP certificate, and two weeks for my letter. Pretty stoked with that considering I leave next week!!!

Re: Application Processing Times

It's actually a good idea to keep a running tally of processing times. I've changed the subject of this thread and made it a sticky.

If anyone else who is reading this wouldn't mind telling us how long your LOI took, that would be great!

Re: Application Processing Times

I had a nightmare trying to get my application to the Canadian Consulate in Sydney. I sent it via Registered Post and it looked like Australia Post may have lost my mail. I stressed over it for a week before I got an email from WHP Canada just over a week later saying that they've received my application. They say that I should get an email within two weeks if there aren't any problems with my application.

My police certificate took only a week to arrive.

I'll update you guys when I get my letter of introduction.

Re: Application Processing Times

I just got my Letter of Introduction by email, but I'm still waiting on the Welcome Letter. All up from the time I posted it and received the letter took it took 12 days. It took 11 days to get the email saying that my application had been received, and the next day I got my letter of introduction. So stoked after the screwup that Australia Post put me through.

Re: Application Processing Times

Hey team,

I'm applying for my second visa, my first LOI expired before I got a chance to use it. I put off the trip two times, so I'm going for my third attempt, third time lucky right?

Here's my progress so far:
Application sent off: 7/3/2012
Email saying application received: 19/3/2012 (Although according to auspost it go there a few business days after I sent it)
Email saying application has progressed: 20/3/2012 (Email says it should be two more weeks)

I'll let you know when I receive it.

Cheers,
Dylan

Re: Application Processing Times

I sent my application off from Vancouver with Fedex on Monday 12th of March, fedex delivered it Thursday morning 15th March (sydney time)
I got the "Application Received" email on Monday 19th of March (vancouver time), application update email (being processed) on Tuesday night, then today Thursday 22nd of March (friday in sydney) got the pdf letter. That's just over a week from when they received it.

Now my question to anyone who has recently got their letters, I have had two whp's before, my first one was back when it was only a 1 year visa in 2008, then a two year one which was approved in 2010, I waited almost a year before I activated it and I'm nearing the end of it now. Back then the "letter of introduction" was much more simple, just one email, all text that actually said "Letter of Introduction" and then listed all the specifications, 2 year visa etc etc.

This email I got today, was just a pdf, I have a document number, and it says "Your application to study or work in Canada has been approved", it is quite vague compared to what they use to send, mentions study OR work visa, and if you are american and getting visas etc, sounds like a template like email they send to everyone applying for all types of visas, and it doesn't mention anywhere on it a 2 year work visa, or even the words "letter of introduction", but I am assuming this is the "letter of introduction"...right? smile

On the website https://www.whpcanada.org.au/applicatio … essingtime

it says "If your application is approved, a Welcome Letter, from International Experience Canada (IEC) to inform that your application was approved, will also be emailed to you. The Welcome Letter includes all the necessary information lifted from Citizenship and Immigration's (CIC) Letter of Introduction (LOI), in particular, your unique work permit Authorization Number (which starts with the letter "U" followed by nine numbers). Therefore, you may proceed to Canada with a printout of the Welcome Letter (even if you do not receive the LOI) together with the other requirements listed on the Welcome Letter (ie. passport, evidence of funds and insurance). The Port of Entry (POE) Officers will use the "Authorization Number", which appears on both the Welcome Letter or LOI, to bring up your details on their screen and print your work permit. It is not mandatory to present a printout of the LOI if you have the Welcome Letter. "

so the "Welcome Letter" will be more specific? Do most people receive these the same time as the Letter of Introduction? from what they say it sounds like you need your welcome letter to cross the border definitely but you don't need the letter of intro. hmm, if anyone can enlighten me please do, this was so much simpler when they just sent out one letter. I figure I will wait until Monday and if I don't receive the Welcome letter I will email them directly and ask.

and one more question, and the end of the pdf letter it states
"IMPORTANT: Regulations have established a maximum cumulative duration of four years that a Temporary
Foreign Worker can work in Canada. After four years of work has been accumulated, a period of 48 months
spent not working in Canada must elapse before another work permit can be issued, with some limited
exceptions. You are encouraged to keep track of any time you have not worked in Canada and retain any
documents which can prove the time which you did not work."

Does anyone know if this applies to Aussies on the whp? I thought there was no limit on the number of visas we could apply for until we reach the age limit?
any information please pass on. and congrats to all those people with their letters smile

Re: Application Processing Times

I got my letter from immigration today also saying my application has been approved, and I didn't get my LOI either, so I think this will come a little later?

Re: Application Processing Times

Thanks for keeping this thread updated folks! If anyone is applying for their third in a row (should be starting to happen about now), let us know how you go in regards to what Mary posted earlier:

Re: Application Processing Times

Hey Jared,

Regarding the four year rule, in the Welcome letter it actually states
"- The LOI is a generic version and some contents of it do not apply to you.  You need to note that as an IEC participant:

1. You have to obtain insurance as per https://www.whpcanada.org.au/faq.shtml
2. The regulation about "Maximum cumulative duration of four years that a Temporary Foreign Worker can work in Canada and after four years of work, a period of 48 months spent not working in Canada must elapse" does NOT apply to IEC participants.
3. Australian passport holders do NOT require a Temporary Resident Visa to enter Canada. "

So it doesn't apply to us on this work permit. I got the letter of introduction first which was a little confusing and then the welcome letter after, I noticed the letter of introduction is very generic and almost like a template they send for any canadian work/study visa, the welcome letter is much more specific..and much more friendly, this is the last sentence

"Our hope is that this will be, if not the first, the next step in a life-long positive relationship with Canada and Canadians.  We wish you every success in your Canadian adventure."

How nice smile

The four year rule does apply to other types of work visas so people who are above the age limit and have another type of work permit, but the rule didn't go into effect until 2011.
This is what it says on the website

The cumulative duration regulation establishes a maximum allowable duration of four years that a temporary foreign worker can work in Canada, followed by a period of four years in which the worker would not be eligible to work in Canada. It takes effect April 1, 2011 for all TFWs; therefore, the earliest date that a TFW could reach the four-year cumulative duration is April 1, 2015.

More info is here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/tfw.asp

But again it doesn't apply to australians on the working holiday program smile

Re: Application Processing Times

I got both letters yesterday. Which means my processing time was just under a month.
Unfortunately I had a bad bike accident yesterday as well and will have to push my departure date back from 29 May after meeting with plastic surgeons again next Monday sad

My second WHP took one day - I'm not kidding - from the time they received it to the time I received my LOI. Must have been a slow week for them wink
