Importing a car into Canada from the USA

Hi

Does anyone have any experience importing a car into Canada from the USA?

My gf and I are looking at heading to Calgary in June, and staying for 2 years.
I'm after a good reliable car for winter and was thinking of buying a newish subaru forrester in the US
and importing to Canada.
(they are at least 10k cheaper compared with canada and 20k cheaper compared to home)

Has anyone brought a car across the border before.
The car is manufactured in the USA so there is no duty and it apparently meets the air standards or whatever.

If anyone has any experience with this or with using agents, it would be great to hear, and get an idea of the real costs.

I've heard of Canadians doing it before, but never heard of an Australian. I know there's a bunch of agents out there though, so they'd be a good place to start. A coworker of mine recently chatted to a bunch of them before purchasing a new (used) vechicle and had a few looking for vehicles for him in the US. Eventually ended up finding a good deal on a vehicle in Canada, so that made it easier for him.

Agents would definitely be a good place to start... they make their living off knowing what they can and can't do!
