AUSTRALIA DAY 2011!!

Seeing it went so well last year... We’re doing it again!!!!!

Just because you’re in “sunny” Vancouver, doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the biggest event in the calendar year...

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y167/MTBjaz/australia_day.jpg

DATE: Saturday January 29, 2011
TIME:  1pm – onwards
LOCATION: 2nd Beach Picnic Pavilion, Stanley Park, Vancouver (also known as Ceperly)

Here's a map: http://vancouver.ca/PARKS/info/picnic/p … nicmap.pdf
Here's a map to get there by public transport from Waterfront station. http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&sour … mp;start=0

Join us as we throw a few snags on the BBQ, and gather around to celebrate... even if it’s not at the beach!! There will be the mystery bags (snags), dead horse (sauce) and bread which will be free; however a donation would be appreciated to go towards the flood victims back in Australia.

Everything else is BYO. If you want anything more entertaining or nutritious to eat then bring it yourself! If you are bringing any type of alcohol, please bring it in a different type of container so it’s not as obvious wink

We are going to be holding some raffles with all money raised also being donated to the flood relief and there could be some very ‘special’ prizes (Bundy)!! Also available for a small donation – HOME-MADE LAMINGTONS! So don’t forget to bring your loonies!!

Wear warm clothes (it is outside – even though the weather report says it may be sunny!), anything Australian (incl flags, clothing, games, ANYTHING!) and your excitement to meet some new people!!

We’re holding it on the Saturday after the actual day (26th) due to the fact that a lot of us work on the Wednesday, so this gives everyone a chance to be able to have a coldie to celebrate!!!

This is going to be great fun, mate!

PS: Non Australians are very welcome - the more the merrier!

Re: AUSTRALIA DAY 2011!!

I'm excited!

Some pics from last year:

The pavillion we were hanging out in - it had a great view of the water, lots of people out and about and loving it. Sun even almost came out at one stage!

Some of the crew! The aussies at least wink

Ben Killerby was grand enough to bring some of the Aussie Olympian gear along... we got a sneak peak! Very cool stuff!

Kicking the footy in the park afterwards

Re: AUSTRALIA DAY 2011!!

Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday, was great fun and we met a bunch of new people! I didn't get a chance to snap any pictures, but I saw a few folks taking happy snaps, so if you get a chance, post them up and share!

I think we had maybe 20 folks at one point, which is pretty good, with the age range swinging between sub-20 to 60 or 70 plus, so a really great cross section of Aussie folks who're living here in Vancouver.

Brooke was fantastic enough to volunteer (sort of) for counting the donations towards the Queensland Flooding victims, so she should have a count for us at some stage today hopefully.

Also, a big shout out to Clancy's Meat in North Vancouver, who donated all the snags and patties for the day! Here's their location if you want to go visit them:

Thanks again to everyone!

Oh, and for those who were there for it, I noticed last night that my eyelashes and eyebrows had suffered a bit of damage from the pre-lunch fireball my BBQ decided to put on. Classy!

Re: AUSTRALIA DAY 2011!!

Again, a BIG thank you to all those who braved the cold and rain to come along to the Aussie Day BBQ! Loved hearing some Triple M playing in the background and hearing a few different people's stories about their time here so far.. and their excitement from just arriving.

I think the snag on bread was a hit along with the appearance of lamingtons, meringues and good old Tim Tams!!! Giant thank you to Clancy's at Nordel again for donating the snags and burgers!! They were a treat smile

We have made a donation of $100 to the QLD Flood Appeal which is just great on behalf of CanAussie.com. Please remember that every little bit counts!!! You can still donate to http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html .

Thank you so much Jared for organising another great Aussie BBQ. Great job as bringing everyone together smile

Here's some of my pics from the day:
