Alaskan Cruise in May

Looking for a travel companion to join me on a cruise to Alaska leaving in May as my current travel buddy pulled out as she can't get the time off work!  Cheap deals can be found, want to do one way for 7 days either to Anchorage or from Anchorage to Vancouver then fly the other way to get the maximum cruising time and the more distance up into Alaska.  Its obviously cheaper if you go with someone as the cabins are based on twin share so let me know if anyone is keen on doing this with me.  Cheers!  Susan  smile

Re: Alaskan Cruise in May

Well the cheapest that I found was a 7 day leaving from Vancouver on the 28 May to Anchorage for $499!  Then flights online would be about $300 to fly back from Anchorage.  It does all add up though but for me I know I'm going to be getting into debt this year but how often am I going to be this close to Alaska and then driving across the country in the Summer is going to ruin my savings plan all together but heck it's sooooo worth it!  ;0)

so around 1k would have been enough?
oh dear now im really regretting the early move to van...
by may 28 i'd just be starting a new job and i doubt theyre gonna let me off for 7-10days. unless i do casual work at restaurants or something. hhmmm

Re: Alaskan Cruise in May

That price is the very cheapest that I've found & it's based on twin share on a inside cabin.  I'm guessing that you would need a little more than $1k though to include tipping (bloody Canada!), spending money etc, booze is also not covered on cruises plus all your other touristy stuff like if you wanted to do any optional activities/tours at the ports etc but its still pretty reasonable as that's your cruise, accommodation, flight & meals pretty much covered for $1000.  It would be departing here in Vancouver on Friday 28th May @ 1745hrs, arriving in Anchorage/Seward @ 0700hrs on Friday 4th June.  So essentially you would only need 5 days off work & possibly just leave work early on the 28th as you have to be there an hour or two before departure.  The cruise is on the Celebrity Millennium.  I just checked it again & it's gone up to $559 but I think it varies daily & I've copied the itinerary below & it says you arrive at 4am in Anchorage but who will be even awake at that time!  haha

ITINERARY

DAY     DATE     PORT     ARRIVE       DEPART
Fri     May     28     Vancouver, BC, Canada         5:45pm
Sat     May     29     Inside Passage (Cruising)
Sun     May     30     Ketchikan, AK     7:00am     3:00pm
Mon     May     31     Icy Strait Point, AK     8:00am     9:00pm
Tue     Jun     1     Juneau, AK     7:00am     8:30pm
Wed     Jun     2     Skagway, AK     7:00am     5:00pm
Thu     Jun     3     Hubbard Glacier, AK (Cruising)     7:00am     11:00am
Fri     Jun     4     Anchorage (Seward), AK     4:00am

Re: Alaskan Cruise in May

There are even cheaper deals for cruises leaving on the 14th May instead of the 28th May, if anyone is flexible on timing and looking to do an Alaskan Cruise this Summer then please let me know!  I would really love to do this but as mentioned the costs are all based on Twin Share in the cabins and you can add extra people too.

Hey Susan, I'd love to hear how that cruise went! Did you end up going? I've been thinking of doing that very cruise, would love the feedback. Thanks.

Re: Alaskan Cruise in May

Hi there, no I never ended up going unfortunately.  Couldn't find anyone to join me and I think as the cost is based on twin share in the cabins its more cost effective to go with someone; plus surely much more fun!  I will just have to wait until another time to do that cruise.  If you end up going please let me know how you get on.
