Here in Vancouver, there's actually a really vibrant Australian Rules Football League, and they're always looking for new players. If you are working in a foreign city, there is no better way of making new mates than joining a local sports team. Here's a word from Matt Bell, coach of one of the local teams, the Burnaby Eagles:
"Established in 2005, we play in the North West Pacific Australian Football League against teams from Vancouver, Seattle, Portland & Calgary. Our home is in beautiful Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, and we're only 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver.

Most of the big football, rugby and other sport finals are also televised at several pubs around town too, so if you're in town on game day and looking to hang out with a few Aussies and bellow at the tele, then check out either the Mooses Down Under Bar, Score on Davey or several of the other Australian oriented joints in town.

Hey guys,
I'm the current coach of the Vancouver Cougars (http://www.VancouverCougars.com) which is an AFL team here in Vancouver. We are part of the BCFooty league which has 4 teams.
We're always looking for more players (experience level does not matter - everyone welcome).
Our season generally runs from April through to September, and we play approximately every second weekend.
There are a couple of optional road trips to Seattle, Kelowna, Calgary and Portland for tournaments throughout the season, with the US Nationals (biggest tournament outside of Australia) held every year in October.
So if you want to play some sport while here in Vancouver and meet some great guys, definitely come on down.
